Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
