19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
